Seed saving

Would like to seed save as much as i can this year, i reckon it would save me a few pennies, does anybody else seed save here and is there any tips/books, i would love to learn more. How do you seed save?

Wow... big topic. Start with the easy ones, peas, french beans, tomatoes.. all of which don't tend to cross pollinate... then it gets tricky...  :)

This is a subject very close to my heart. The seed saver needs a mix of skill, art, luck, forward planning but above all, patience.

First thing to bear in mind is that at allotment level, you cannot grow all the seeds each year so swapping with like-minded peeps is important and A4A provides an active swap shop.

Parsnip seed should be obtained fresh every year but any of the brassica will remain viable for 5 years and beyond.

Remember too that the plants will have to remain in situ long after their mates have been sent to the kitchen. This ties up land for longer and can make your plot look scruffy.
