Bayliss autovent
« on: April 03, 2009, 21:41:37 »
In the greenhouse I have recently taken over they have Bayliss vents. The greenhouse hasn't been used for a number of years and was just wondering how they actually work and at what temperature do they open? Also, if they don't work, how can they be repaired?

If anyone could help it would be appreciated.

I am not sure about that particular one however these things normally have a wax cylinder inside, the heat expands the wax and the vent is pushed open. They are normally adjustable so can open when the heat gets to a certain level. Replacement cylinders can be purchased for some makes, I think if you leave them on over winter the wax perishes sooner because of the cold

You mean the top opening vent? They work on wax expanding and contracting i believe. If they stop working i don't think their is a lot you can do only buy a new one. Argos do them for £20. Mine just started opening last week, always a good sign.

Take a look at the FAQ on the Bayliss site.
