Blood, Fish and Bone for a flow release fertiliser but be aware, cats like this so rake it in!

Pelleted chicken manure for a quick hit with lasting energy.

I use both and get good results.

if you near the coast, you can't beat seaweed!!

Think I'd best avoid blood, fish and bone then.

Lots of cats around (including our own) and I've seen foxes in the area.

No need to be near the sea to use seaweed! I use both seaweed meal and the liquid feed and swear by both. I buy it from my allotment shop but if you can't get it locally try the Organic Gardening Catalogue, does a good on-line service.

In my opinion the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.

Plus the fact I net most of my stuff (birds!!) so this double up and keeps animals off as well.

As mentioned chicken pellets are a fast manure so I never use it.

Fish, Blood & bone is a three way fertiliser i.e.

Blood is nitrogen which is quick acting when you need it most.

Fish is phosphate which helps the roots and the bone is slow release and brings out the potash when needed.

So all in all it fits in very well with a plants growing cycle.

So much so I don't have to feed again all season.

But the choice is yours!!

Nettle soup is fab! Steve is right, it smells awful, but i love feeling like i've got something for nothing and it gives my plants a good boost :D The only thing i will say though, is sieve it well to get rid of any seeds- i made this mistake in our first year and we had baby nettles everywhere (and their sting is the worst!!) We also use chicken poo, seaweed liquid and other organic feeds we find on offer, we're not too fussy, and we find that it helps to mix the feed up a bit (esp. for hungry things like sweetcorn, and our strawbs as they're only in a thin layer of compost out of a bag)
We've never used BF&B though as we're veggie, so can't comment.

In my opinion these wacky brews give marginal benefit at best and are vastly overrated. Horse manure is also free so why not take advantage of it. Far less smell too.
