raised bed
« on: March 16, 2009, 13:52:37 »
Hi everyone, what a lovely day it is to be outside.
I have built a raised bed and put it on to my grass in my garden. Then i added farm yard manure, then a layer of newspaper then finished with good compost. This was 3 months ago now and most of the newspaper has rotted down, but i still have grass under neath. will this be OK for me to plant out in it? IE: potatoes, and onions?

Not necessarily depends what size it is and what you wanna put in it,you may have been better removing the grass then put the raised bed on top of bare earth but then again you could cover the top of the raised bed with weed suppressant fabric and plant through it,don't use it with  potatoes though they will produce enough foliage to stop any weeds or grass coming through, take a look at the link below for some ideas,

I think I will be using a raised system once I get my allotment. I hope you will have some photos once youv'e done it.
