Did anyone mention, hard graft, getting muddy, hours of back breaking digging, if its sowing and planting and coming back 4/5 months later and finding a weed free plot full of lovely veggies then dream on thats Peter Pan stuff, if its funky you want then get down to camden and get yourself a jazzy shirt.  :P      ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

Given their problems with typesetting do you have to be dyslexic to do it?

Is the guardian one of the big ones which the readers fold in two and tuck a copy of one of the small ones with pictures of ladies without vests on, in?

No, it's a Berliner - the size between broadsheet and tabloid.  Been that way for a few years now.  :) :) :)

But we're straying off topic ... ... ...  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Just keep at it steadily, do what you can, and use black plastic to inhibit weeds where you can't. Keep an eye on Poundland; they usually have cloches in during the spring. They're a bit on the small side, but I find them really useful for seedlings and new plantings.

Back on topic (though have enjoyed reading this post  :D). I'd say yes you could grow your own veggies, but an allotment is a commitment in terms of time, energy, money etc. Why not try some stuff at home in pots, on windowsills, in the garden to see how you like it. Its amazing what can grow well in pots.
And as to "funky" have a look at the seed catalogues on line, there are so many varieties of veg, things you will never see in the shops or are hard to find, not even in Waitrose  ;D.  Black french beans, yellow cherry tomatoes, pumpkins and courgettes of every colour and shape. The list could go on and on, but I won't!
Oh, and welcome to A4A
