 i have to complete this course every year as part of my cpd .... but everyone should know the basics

I clickedon yes becauseI did a RedCrosscoursea few years ago,although I'm not sure I would do it right now-maybe a case of a little knowledge being a dangerpus thing?

what a brilliant thread Lauren, if more people could do this could change the outcome for those that come in to my department, not for all but maybe some. sadly i had to use these skills far too much on my last night shift on saturday  :'(

In Canada the ratio of people training to do CPR is........

ONE in FIVE...

If there are five people in a place of work a minimum of one has to have been trained in CPR and First Aid. The ratio goes up the more workers there are.
I really wish it were like that here.

When I ran my Childrens' Nursery......everyone, even volunteers, had to been trained, or they didn't work.  :)

Handy tip for getting the speed/rhythm right if you ever need to do CPR for real:
work either to the old Bee Gees' classic "Staying Alive", or to "Nellie the Elephant". Both these tick over at very close to the 100 beats per minute which is the recommended rate for chest compressions.  :)

Be careful not to sing these out loud whilst doing it though.....I have heard of someone doing just that!

Also note that if you ever have to do this for real, it is extremely tiring after even a few minutes. Take turns with other people of possible, swapping the person doing lung inflations with the person doing chest compressions.

I do apologise I remembered that I did treat one fit bird at work, I was half way through chest compressions when she asked, is this really necessary for a sprained ankle.    :o    ;D ;D ;D
