Topic: Fruit Trees from Lidl - When to plant out?

I have just bought some fruit trees from lidl, Cherry - Stella, Victoria Plum and a cooking apple.

My question is, is it ok to plant them in the ground outside now or should I wait a while?

i bought some aswell at that price couldnt refuse but will say there is no soil on them and there small so im going to wait a little longer as we still going to get a little more cold . as there so young will do better if the soil temp is up a little more

As long as the soil isn't frozen solid or waterlogged they will be fine to go out now...  :)

thanks. 2 will be going in the ground and one will be going in a pot.

So I will be doing that in the next couple of days.

I bought them from Lidl at Rothwell, Leeds. W Yorks. They had loads of fruit trees in and they all looked healthy.

You can pot them up no problem. I got a a plum last year and that is in a 24inch pot (I think) and that is doing fine and is stands at around 7ft inc the pot.

Year before I also bought an apple tree from Wilkinson (it was only about 18inch tall if that) and that went in an old 15litre paint bucket.  That is also doing well and stands at 4ft now (I wont let it get any higher though). I got 4 lovely apples of it last year.

As for the soil type, I used a  mixed of garden soil, compost from bin and old mushroom manure.

I think that would be more down the lines of a profession or career over job ;-) You would have to show commitment that's for sure.

Because it is rather cold, I have put one in a huge pot, in the greenhouse, which is currently empty (sad) except for a few bits I could not resist planting too soon (again).

I actually put a complaint in to the manager at the local Aldi for letting plants go dry and die. The answer was, 'we get them all on sale or return so it does not matter'. I felt like shouting 'plants have rights too' but held back just in case that meant I was as mad, as I suspect, I probably am.

You may have taken the wrong track there. If they were on sale, then he was selling unfit goods. A complaint to that effect would have worried him more!

I have bought a peach tree too and I want to put this in a pot so at the end of the year it can go in the green house. I would like to keep it small so I can get it in easy. Can any one give me a clue on if it is ok to prune now and to what extent is it safe to prune this tree. I purchases this one from Aldi and is just under 6ft
