OK. So what is the challenge?

I'm in for the fun of it whatever it is. I planted 8 Vales Green Emerald in the polytunnel yesterday.

going to put some fleece over the top of the cloche today over mine.

Think we should aim at some the size of a 50 pence piece to count as acceptable.

I'm game but what are the rules?  ::)

As Glosterwomble says "Is it size" or total weight of crop per spud planted?

And what is the last planting day to be in the running?

I'll try half a dozen Lady Christie in cold greenhouse border. Just to see if there is any difference  :)  They will be straight out of bag and not prechitted.

Why not plant six spuds by next weekend and pull them all say 1st June and compare the total weight of crop?

Is anyone going to have a go at spuds in a tub too?  ;D

do they have to be in the ground or can we grow them in tubs in a heated greenhouse? (some of the folk on here have got access to heated structures)
I Always plant a few in a coldframe, so I can have new spuds on my birfday (june 7) but if I can use heat, I'll grow some @ college ;)

Right sorry I just jumped in because RK had planted on the 13th, could be unlucky RK.  :(   Right they have to be planted on the lottie, garden, tubs, pollytunnel, coldframe or Cold greenhouse or the like, no heat then everyone has a fair chance, the sooner the better I'm aiming for Tommorow covering with large bottle cloches. So we'll see who has the first meal for two on the table, size will be argueable so no smaller than a tabletennis ball but hey its only a bit of fun.  ;D ;D ;D

Can I join in too? I think I'll try a few Swift and maybe a few Rocket as well. I'll have to cover with fleece as I haven't got cloches or a cold frame yet!

Do they have to be panted out now in the freezing ground, or can I let them chit in a luke warm (3-8 deg C) porch for a couple of weeks ?
