Squashes?
« on: January 29, 2009, 10:21:03 »
A friend of mine is starting to grow veg for the first time this year and mainly wants to grow squashes, (heaven knows why) because I have never bothered with them I wondered if anyone knows where I can find so advise on how to grow them, what soil type you need etc?

An extract from the RHS website:
'Most form large trailing plants, which can be trained in circles, over strong supports or left to sprawl. The large seeds are easy to sow, either in pots in April/May or in situ in June. Pumpkins and squash require a moist soil, but are otherwise easy to grow.'

I have found this link that may help:

very easy to grow, mine grow really well on my sandy soil i treat them like marrows, dig a hole in march and fill with grass cuttings, straw, horsemuck etc then cover over a couple of weeks before planting out gives the soil time to settle. got loads last year and never really watered them just let them fend for them selves. grew mine over an old gazebo :)
today i will be growin veg
