I too have a brand new allotment. Been on A4A for a while but now have my own liitle piece of England! The local parish council have create 52 allotments o land donated by a local farmer. It's clay and has a lot of couch grass. They've turned it over but that just copped up the roots. Our lottie is only 1/2 size but that's OK by me. Been working on it all over Christmas and New Year( weather permitting). Have put 100 largish bags of well rotted munure on it. Local stables let you have it for free. Dig it yourself. Made 8 raised beds and will concentrate on 4 this year. Will get some spuds in to break up the ground. As for the sheds, B & Q's sheds are OK. I believe they've been reduced because they are discontinuing that model. I've ordered one. Wife works there so get 20% off as well. Local B & Q offered free delivery to anyone on our site.
The only down side with the allotment is the cost (£40 per year). All we get is water on tap. I will post photos when I find out how to do it.
