monitor resolution
« on: December 29, 2008, 18:11:37 »
I've just installed a new monitor for my desktop pc and have found that the screen resolution should be 1440x900. However the most resolution I can seem to  get out of my pc is 1280x720. This makes my photos look too narrow and all the other (lower) resolutions make them look too wide. Any ideas?

you may need to update your graphics card drivers. if you are running vista, it should auto detect the best resolution for your graphics card.

what graphics card are you running? nvidia drivers can be found here

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

ati drivers

http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

in each case look for the graphic card that you have. download the driver software, double click the downloaded .exe, following the on screen prompts, drivers will be installed upon restart.

You need to look at the specs on your computer, it will tell you what graphics card it has then you go to their site and download the driver.  I had to do mine today.

Hm, I've been to the NVIDA site, it's scanned my computer and told me "Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your GPU. No driver update is necessary at this time." Apparently I have an Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller. Still no wiser!  ::)

Ta da! Success- I found another thread in that forum you suggested Simon and it suggested I download an update from the Intel site, which I did, and now I can get glorious 1440x900 resolution. Thanks again for your help, I wouldn't have got to the answer without it  :)
