Is ash any use?

Is ash from a coal fire any good for the allotment soil or compost bin? if so how much would you use?

I have not used ash from a coal fire but I have found this thread.  Ensure you read post number 7.

Coal ash is good stuff for making up paths, but it's not much use for anything else.
