Do I Add or Do I Not Add...

Manure to my flower borders?

According to a neighbour, I shouldn't add any manure to the flower borders, yet I remember Geoff Hamilton adding some each time he
transplanted something.

What do you do...?

I like to top dress flower borders with a good blanket of manure in Jan-Mar after all leaves and weeds are cleared  and the plants have been tidied up. If the borders have spring bulbs the sooner this task is done the better so that new growth can simply push through the manure layer.
