Just one more?
« on: October 20, 2008, 13:11:47 »
Copied several folders to a memory stick. Fine. But when I went back later, 2/3rds of the pictures were corrupt.

So I now can't trust the stick.

Why, please??

Have you tried copying them back to a pc and veiwing, then format the memory card.

Could be a memory size problem, Tim. Try reducing your pic's before downloading to your stick.
What's the size of your stick?

memory sticks fail, just the same as CDs or floppies.  They're not infallible.

Size, Ken? Bigger than your walkie things - 2GB

Failure? Don't I know. All was backed up a year or so ago - vital & irreplaceable records - PC failed - as did the back-up disc!!

So I'm now trying a double back-up - 2 sticks.

Where does it end??

There were 'fake' memory cards being sold, they were labelled as 2Gb (or whatever size) and were actually only 256Mb.
The size comes up correctly in windows, but once it had been filled past the 256Mb mark, corruption would occur, as it was writing over what was already there.

It could be because of that.

Did you buy it from a reputable seller?

Yes.

But I realise - I think - that I should have bought a proper external disk. This I have now done.

If the pics are really important, I may be able to rescue them from your memory stick Tim.

Always on hand!!

I'll see what happens with the new gadget. When it comes.
