Topic: children and greenhouse glass

I thought i'd say to anyone thinking about their kids and whether to spend extra on the glass in the greenhouse - do get the more expensive safety glass.

This week my 16 month old (who's quite big and strong for his age) opened the door and sat down to play with the gravel in the greenhouse. He just leant back on the door and glass shattered and he fell through.
Thankfully/amazingly there was not a scratch on him.
We dread to think how badly he would have cut if it was normal panes of glass that dont shatter. I was quite impressed actually how effective it was.  Well worth the extra cost.

:o happy to hear he is ok and that your money was well spent, i inherited an old greenhouse when we moved and as a precaution i stuck that clear plastic that comes on a roll with adhesive, that you can use to cover books etc onto the door panes to prevent glass injury due to accidental glass breakage from the kids or self.

But doesn't the worry turn your hair grey as well. I only visit my friends house and see all sorts of danger lurking, goodness knows what state I would be in if i had to look after them for more than a few hours!

I am glad now that I paid the extra 80 quid to get safety glass in my potting shed! Little man is only crawling but one day no doubt he'll find some way of climbing up to the windows...

i shared the same concerns when i inherited my greenhouse thats as old as gods dog! my little girl is 2 1/2 going on 15, and into everything, as soon as we got it we took all the glass out and replaced it with the corrugated plastic, surprised to find its only £6 per sheet and holds the heat really well.

We nearly missed it, but then we ended up with little man (little miracle) and we are so glad we did! Seems a cliche that it's different when it's your own, but it is. Though not for everyone. Have plenty of childfree friends who are quite glad to be allergic!

It does have rather a negative effect on allotments though!!!!!!!

I would recommend safety glass, as a teenager I had first hand experience of the damage glass can cause...  put it this way, I am looky to still have all five fingers left on my right hand.

It was nasty but all is ok now, got most of the feeling back.
