CAR JACKING
« on: September 12, 2008, 22:29:32 »
'WARNING FROM WEST MIDLANDS POLICE

BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE--NEW WAY TO

DO CAR JACKINGS (NOT A JOKE)'

.. You walk across the car park , unlock your car and get inside. You

start the engine and shift into Reverse.

When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your

parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle

of the rear window. So, you shift into neutral,  unlock your

doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or

whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach

the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out

of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically

mow you down as they speed off in your car.

And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car.

So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your

money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are

now compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.

If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just

drive away. Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you

read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and

family, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds of

personal information and identification d o cuments, and you

certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

Please pass this on.
When you wake up on a morning say "good morning world" and be grateful

DAVY

This has been doing the rounds for some time now - originally from the States.

I agree with you thifasmom.

The thing I would never do is leave the car unattended with the keys in the ignition.

The reason being that, if it is stolen your insurance is invalidated,  Not only have you lost your vehicle, but you have lost all claim to recompense..

and PS, it would be OH's job to remove the piece of paper from the rear windscreen, while I was comfortably in the driver's seat. ;D

About 10 years ago in Milan there was a scam where an innocent looking pedestrian would be walking past a car that someone (usually female) had just got into to drive away.  They'd pause, look at an offside tyre and then walk round to the driver's side and knock on the window to tell the driver they had a flat tyre.  The driver would then get out and walk round the car to look, and the accomplice would grab the handbag (which was usually on the passenger seat) and scarper on a motorino.

It happened to a couple of friends, usually when finishing work late in the evening.  I was lucky in that respect as I drove a right-hand drive car, which confused them completely!
