Borlotti Beans come in several types bush as well as climbing. They are usually grown for the beans inside the pods, like kidney beans, rather than for eating whole like runner or french beans.
The beans may be eaten fresh but are more usually dried and stored. Dried beans need soaking (at least overnight I think) before use.

absolutely delish as a hot bean stew, but i suppose you could also add it to a meat stew, when fresh ie: not harvested dry, cook for 40 - 45 minutes, if dry soak over night then cook for about the same time maybe a little bit longer, or you could pressure the dry beans for about an hour, if you use pressure cookers.
i had these yesterday, a mixture of overdue runnerbeans and borlotto beans, the second pic shows the stew done, in the last 10 minutes i added the runnerbeans that were still young and tender. like i said before absolutely delish.
