DIY deco charges?
« on: September 05, 2008, 20:04:08 »
I've been asked to price a paint only jobbo for a whole appartment. What's the going rate these days on labour only? I'm thinking 10 quid an hour??

 ???

More info please? Is it just emulsion and gloss paintwork, or wallpaper plus?

Is this in England? Prices vary county to county & even district to district...see what others are charging?

In this area (mid Wales) it varies between £10-£15 an hour for the local companies or there are currently a lot of Slovenian buiders about who charge £7.50 an hour for decorating.

A couple of Polish guys are willing to work cheap rates but their work is unknown. The job is a simple re-paint of walls and ceilings...I'm off to take a look at it today. I did similar work early this year @ £10 and we were all satisfied.
The job has to be top-notch, no problem there, but there could well be quite a bit more come from this one and I wanted a fair rate from the start.
I'll see exactly what's involved and work the time out and probably give him a total based on that hourly rate.

Ken, go for the hourly rate because you never know if you come across  a time consuming hiccup, if you know what i mean.  When we had a chap help us out he charged us £10 an hour but that was a couple of years ago now.
Don`t undercut yourself. :D

Saw the job. Walls and ceilings in good order. He wanted a total price and I'm reckoning about 8/9 days so I quoted 800 Euro. He's very happy at that.
Also, he's wanting a new wooden floor, I work with a good wooden floor layer too, and contact for that happens next week. Could be I'll soon be buying a new pushbike to get around on!
