New to celery growing...can anyone help me
« on: July 17, 2008, 07:54:19 »
I have grown some self blanching celery in my allotment. I planted about 12 plants in a block.   It is about 4 inch high now.  I keep reading i should be earthing it up....do i have to do this  with a self blanching variety?  If i do, does this mean i earth up like i do my potatoes?

Thanks for any advice?

Iv'e tried to grow it several times and failed. This year someone gave me a plant of parcel (parsley with a celery taste) It's gonna have to do.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Planting in a block is good.

You do not earth up self-blanching varieties.

Keep them well-watered (very well-watered).

Beware that self-blanching varieties are not hardy - they will succumb to the first frost.
