My sister in law is 30 weeks pregnant, she has been taken into hospital with contractions 2 minutes apart they have put her on adrip to stop them but cant guarantee it will, i may be an auty again before long.
i wondered how good the chances are that the labour can be stopped?

well no baby yet they gave her a drip to delay labour and so far so good little un is hanging on in there ;D

Hi Debster, I'm guessing they have used an Atosiban infusion or similar to try and stop her contractions, how well it works really depends on her body's state of play when they started it. The earlier on in labour it is started, the greater the chance of it working. They will also be looking for reasons why her labour has started so early, screening her for any infection as that is a common reason for it all kicking off.

At worst, it can delay labour sufficiently to enable the mum to start a course of steroid injections to help mature the baby's lungs, so that if the baby is born it is better prepared for extrauterine life than if it had not had them.

Hopefully it sounds like it has done its job so far, keep us posted! ;D

well drip was successful thus far, although sister in law said it was something that sounded like lucozade :o :o ???
steroid injections were given but hopefully not needed, they were testing her for a uti but the longer the little one hangs on in there the better ;D so far so good

think my brother has her weighted down on the sofa, she only wanted to go to work this morning :o anyway little niece cant come yet they cant agree on a name for her yet ;D

Debster the really old method of stopping early labour progressing is alcohol!

Whilst Im not suggesting anyone uses this now its an interesting fact :)

Midwifery has come a long long way since then.
