Holes in Tomatoes
« on: July 08, 2008, 19:47:34 »
Got a bit of a shock this afternoon.

Checking up on my tomatoes I found loads of holes and a caterpillar half in, half out of one of the holes.

What can I do ?

what is worse, when biting into a tomato, than finding a caterpillar

answer = half a caterpillar  ;D

I think you'll just have to pick the bad ones off or at least go through them and pull out all the visible caterpillars, wash well before eating if they are not too badly damaged - good news is that it is probably due to just one caterpillar unless the plants are outside  :-\

The tomatoes with holes are still green at the moment.

The ripe ones we've had didn't have any holes - so no extra protein there ;D

They are growing outside (S.France) - is that bad news ?

I was just thinking that being outside would give more opportunity for more caterpillars instead of just a stray one in the greenhouse

Check all the foliage for the eggs & forestall them?
