Rhubarb chutney not set...
« on: July 07, 2008, 11:12:17 »
Can anyone tell me if I can rescue my batch of rhubarb chutney ..... it is still runny when I tilt the jar.  Got the recipe from the EJ - Emma Jane thread and it tasted lovely so I don't want to lose it if it is possible to redeem it.  Can I put it back in the pan and cook it up again?  :'( :'(

I can't see why you can't boil it up again.

The test I always use for 'readiness' is that when you pass a wooden spoon through the chutney the liquid doesn't seep back into the trail left by the spoon - does that make sense?

Good luck. :)

Tulipa - I re-boiled the chutney and it has come right now.  Many thanks for your help.

I'm really pleased, brilliant.  I think it is a wonderful chutney and disappears very quickly here.  In fact I must make some soon... ;)
