Tumble-Weed Compost bin
« on: August 20, 2004, 20:28:43 »
I am hoping for a used Tumble-Weed Compost bin that rotates in October, ;D anyone else got one that can tell me how they work? Do you just fill with weeds/veg etc, or do you add worms, I really haven’t a clue have I? ???

Roy ;D ;D ;D

You would be better with one that rotates all the year round, Roy, rather than just in October.

But seriously, no you don`t add worms.  The principle of the thing is that the regular (i.e.daily) rotation ensures constant aeration of the contents, resulting in much faster oxydation and composting.  However, the regular rotation is vital - particularly if you put in a lot of sticky stuff - because if the contents are once allowed to form into sticky lumps they will remain in sticky lumps.

Thanks Hugh, ;D It will be put on my Lottie when I get it in October, :D but I can't see me visiting it every day to rotate, :-[ hope it will still do the biz tho, shame about no worms, :-\ I was hoping it would encourage them as my fish like them as a treat. ::)
