I've got some begonias in a pot, the type from tubers, can I still split them or will I disturb them too much?

I usually wait until the corms are coming into growth in the Spring, so that I can get some new growths on each 'bit' as they come into bud.
I think it might cause your plants a lot of stress to cut them up now.
