I've just come back from a week in the US and was buying plants in pots at at GC (as you do  ;D).....

Apart from the larger plants in 1 gal. containers, and therefore in the standard rigid non-recycleable plastic pots we know, anything under that was sold in what was to me a 'jiffy' pot which had only a thin plastic collar on which was printed the plant name, growing instructions, etc.....and THAT collar was made of 'degradeable material'.(according to the blurb)....?

I was SO impressed..

But is this news? Are UK retailers doing the same? I'd love to know, cheers!

You can get biodegradable plant pots in the UK, they are supposed to last about 5 years & when your done with them you just break them & chuck them on the compost heap.

I got some of these last year and I really like them (the plants seem to like them as well). They seem to hold moitture better. The only thing is they need quite a sharp wack to get the plants out.
