Soaking seeds- too long?
« on: April 22, 2008, 20:45:55 »
I put some mine lobata and morning glory in water to soak for 24hrs as recommended on the packets on Sunday- and forgot about them! :-[ They have now been there over 48 hrs and it's dark so won't get a chance to sow them before tomorrow evening. Will they have suffered from the long soaking, and should I take them out now or leave them soaking until I'm ready to sow?

Well, they could have been out in the rain for a week in the wild, so I don't suppose there's any harm done.

I've done this with morning glory & they germinated in the water. They were fine & grew well.

They should be fine... the soaking allows the seed to rehydrate, you should notice they are bigger once soaked and then germinate... don't leave them in the water long once they have put root/shoot out as they need the air as well.

Maybe change the water so that it does not go stale?
