Allotment rents on council owned sites are going to double or even treble over the next few months. The extra revenue will go towards paying the government shortfall the councils need to pay for the over 60's bus passes.
Some of this cost can be reclaimed by the allotment holders who will now be allowed to transport their dirty tools to the allotment on the local bus which will be free to the over 60's. Mowers and rotovators will be able to use the wheelchair spaces allocated on the buses.
