Plant ID please

Growing away happily in mums garden but have no idea what it is  ???

5ft tall ish shrub bearing yellow star shaped flowers on bare branches with green fat buds alongside ready fpr spring, can't take a snap as I have no camera. Does anyone know what this is please, am dying to know?

It maybe a FORSYTHIA, CF, that is what is flowering at present the leave will arrive later.  of course someone may know better.

probably is forsythia as rosebud says but it could also be what i call jews mallow. cant remember the proper name for it.

kerria japonica but more of a cluster shaped flower than a star but there might be star like varieties  :-\

forsythia flowers are a 4 pointed star (and wear a wig). The bark is light brown with bumps on it
Kerria japonia (the double flowered one) has pointy pom-poms for flowers, and the bark is bright green and smooth. The single flowered kerria has flowers a bit like a buttercup, with 5 petals (much nicer IMHO)

Depending where you are in the country, could be hamamelis mollis, aka witch hazel.

Ours finished flowering a week or two ago, further north could/would still be in flower.
