Food loves and hates
« on: March 13, 2008, 20:29:52 »
I thought this might be a bit of fun.  I was in the kitchen just now polishing off the remains of a tin of anchovies when it occurred to me that most people would turn their noses up at what I considered a treat.  So, what three things do you like that others dismiss and what don't you like that others seem to love?

To start the ball rolling I love anchovies, celery and olives and hate chocolate, ice cream and custard.

I cannot get enough of herring roe, sprats, grilled sardines, in fact anything edible from the sea, apart from plaice because it tastes too fishy. Good job I am surrounded by the  sea.

My hates are any dish that has tinned tomatoes in. They seem to smother the other flavours. Fresh, sundried, tomato puree all work all right for me. Tinned tomatos belong on bread fried in lard or dripping and covered in crunchy sea salt.

Another hate is the tasteless broccolli that is used on every hotel meal, which is purely decoration, they might just as well us a plastic one and wash it with the dishes for next time. I am not talking about lottie broccii.

I don't like icecream, pastry but do eat some now and again as it is easier when  serving them to John.

Dislike cooked celery, unless  homemade celery soup full of cream.

I absolutely hate breakfast cereals..all of them!!

I love fresh cooked shellfish, like clams, crab, lobster but only really adore it if I cook them myself these days. it ain't what it used to be.

Dislike English bacon, it goes stiff rather than crisp and I only like smoked.

Love duck eggs

Hate olives.

Hate green peppers, probably cos I am deathly allergic to them but I love ripe ones.

here is good one...I like mushy pea sandwiches

I do like a little anchovy  but the salt gets to me after the first bite

Jeannine, I suspect you are the only person who is going admit that they like mushy pea sandwiches.  That said, when I lived in the Midlands I was rather fond of f a g g o t and mushy pea baps which we used to buy from the chip shop after the disco to keep us going on the long walk home.   ;D

Peanut butter is good but only with Jelly(jam). I crave this about once a year, then give the jar away....time for a shop.
