When to cut the grass?
« on: February 08, 2008, 09:06:52 »
My lawn is looking well overgrown and almost embarrassing.

With all the mild weather its not stopped growing.

Is it safe to cut it with the weather being in double figures?  Any advice would be welcome.

Always cut mine through the winter as it needs it. Must be dry though.

Agree with Morton. I've already edged the lawns & as soon as it's dry enough I'm giving it a haircut  :)

What is your preferred edging method?

We use long-handled edging shears, but we don't have a large lawn.  When you start cutting, set the blades high for the first few cuts.  It may not take a lot off, but it will look neater.

Just done mine this morning- mainly because I couldn't find the holw for my rotary drier, ;D but also because it was getting very long. Think I scalped a few mini narcissus planted in the grass, mond you! :(

Strimmers!...guess I've got to thank the manufacturers really, cos getting up the resultant weeds from seeds sprayed by strimmers in herbacious borders of my laydees keeps me in beer money 8)

Well I had to mow the orchard this morning. Mower clogged with wet grass, but I have the gatherer on as the cuttings rot and leaves big brown patches in the grass.
