Asparagus Crowns
« on: January 06, 2008, 21:59:47 »
Hi, advice needed please.

How many asparagus crowns can I fit in a bed 8ft x 4ft?
If it's Rosie's allotment - how come Muggins here does so much digging?

If you plant them 12" apart in three rows set 18" apart and leave 6" from all edges, you should get 24; that's more or less how I planted mine up last year.

Dunno what the offer is on eBay, Weed-Digga, but if you can hang on (there's still plenty of time for planting) Wilkinsons get their bulbs and tubers in soon. That's where I got my asparagus crowns from - packs of 3 crowns for £2.00 - they usually offer a choice of white or green spears (unnamed varieties).

How many asparagus plants would you need to feed a family of 3 (who love asparagus)?

In Wilkinsons the Asparagus - Connover's Collosal, is 2 for £2.49, bought ours from Blackland Plants Ebay shop 12 for £7. 40 plus £2 postage, when they arrived there was 18 crowns!

In B & Q they are selling 3 Gijnlim crowns for £2.99.

I tried Wilkinson's asparagus a couple of years ago. Hardly any of it came up, and that didn't do anything.
