Help! Something has attacked my sweet pea seedlings
« on: January 16, 2008, 10:36:29 »
On opening my cloche this morning I noticed several of my sweetpeas looked pretty poorly.
They have tiny white dots at their bases.  Can anybody tell me what these are and how I can erradicate them before they get the rest of them.  :(

Any chance of a photo, the symptoms you give don't ring any bells with me.

I don't think the white bits are slug eggs as these are harmless until they hatch, then again some might have hatched.

As I say a picture would help!

If you can't post a picture then can you explain what you mean by poorly?  Have they drooped, shrivelled up, gone brown?  Are there any holes in the leaves or marks on them?  That sort of thing.

There a loads of tiny pinhead white balls at the base of the stem, which has caused them to wilt and die.  The roots are gone too.
I will try and take a picture.

Hmmmm.  Roots gone sounds like vine weevil to me.  Not sure about the white balls but they sound like some sort of eggs.

Could the white dots be the first signs of fungus or mould, perhaps caused by cold and damp/ humidity in the cloche?

Could it be damping off? That's a fungus.

small white spots - sounds like anthracnose but could be other things as well
