With the weather getting colder it is dying and the oxygen weed is growing through it. I left it incase the fish had spawned but no babies but I suppose the bigger ones might have had them. Ah well there is always next year we live in hope. Teresa

Having been lucky so far as regards blanket weed - one of the water tanks further up is covered in it.

Would dead blanket weed be any good for lining hanging baskets?

Hi,
Blanket weed is nothing like moss, I line my baskest with old jumpers or a compost bag cut to shape black side facing out couple of small holes retains moisture.  ;)Back to BW great for the garden dig it in and the compost heap. Funny how nature helps us at times ha ha. ;D Teresa

I've found the lack of blanket weed in my pond, this year, really odd.  Last year I had loads of the stuff all summer, even though my pond plants were much better than they are this year.  No plants seem to have done well this year.  My lily has been really disappointing, compared to last year.

My water is sparkling clear all year round, to the envy of the pond owners, I know.

My flag iris put out loads of leaves, but no flowers.  I think I may divide it in time for next year.

Even my mini bullrushes fired blanks this summer.

Still, I've just bought two variegated irises and a ligularia for 50p each, and I plan to put a secon pond in on the new plot, so we'll see how it goes!

Hi Lynne,

Do you have any photo's of your pond?

Strange about the pond plants this year, as one of my friends plants were brilliant this year and yet the guy at the council office, phoned me to see how my plants were doing as his were so bad.

As it is only my second summer, I haven't anything else to judge by.  But thinking about it my Iris didn't flower either.
