Looks a bit like a Witch hazel, from the colour but the buds don't andthe flowers aren't really tassles...
What is it ? No doubt it has a nice smell, most winter flowers do.

I have sometimes cut a few short branches of forsythia and put them in a vase of water at this time of year.  They don't take long to come into flower  As you say saddad, nice to have a bit of colour to cheer up these drab days.

Beautiful Tim. Every year I wish I had more winter colour in my garden and every year I forget to do something about it  ::)
Hope you feel better soon.
Smile, it confuses people.
