hi all . my point was that the food is of secondary importance at christmas and that it is the quality of your company that either makes or breaks the day.l

Agree 100%

We dispensed with the tradition of gift giving this year - said it was about the company, not the gifts.  That has made such a huge difference for all of us - less stress in the lead up to Christmas and no pressure on the day (who got the better gift, more expensive, most effort, etc).

Yep, me too. We do give gifts but our criteria is £5 or under,Charity shop or home made, the sillier the better!
Smile, it confuses people.
