Pesky Pigeons!!
« on: December 24, 2007, 12:38:22 »
...have attacked my psb plants in the garden...yeah, I know, should have netted them, but... :(

Will they recover (even with netting?) or would I be closing the stable door, etc.etc..?

If they've left any green bits Alishka they'll try to recover. Whether they'll produce anything edible though is another matter. Good luck.

Geoff.

Curiously enough we had rabbit casserole last night. If you could catch the bunnies ...... in a way you'd be getting your broccoli back :)

Many thanks...I've netted the green bits that are left - might get a bonsai psb  :-\...pity cos they were lovely sturdy plants and I do look forward to one of the first spring crops in my garden...

I've not had them attacked before...strange, they didn't touch the sprouts ;D

"Bonsai psb"

I have recently heard sprouts described as bonsai cabbages, can see what they mean, but it doesn't make them any more edible for me!

Hope the net works and you get a tiny bit...

We had some munching from the sky-rats... on the bottom Lottie, even the sprouts. Yet the unnetted PSB on the top plot is unscathed... (rushes out to check...) some lettuce (Bronze Arrow) have been partially munched (a first) maybe they are on a post seasonal excess diet!

Our lotty is plagued by them. We have to net all brassicas and they even sometimes go for peas.
One plant they don't touch is the leaves of Caveolo Nero (Black Kale) It is worth trying!!

They are only doing what is natural so do not see why they are hated and why they have to die.  I net mine - win win.  Like Lish's compromise too.

Hi Alishka, Hi all  :)

If you ask scaffolders nicely they will give you miles of green debris nettting which is perfect for netting all brassicas, I use something with a wider mesh for peas to let the bees in.
Brassicas always seem ready to put on fresh leafy growth when they are trimmed, (tops and sideshoots) which is perfect for eating even if its not the main crop.

And by thoughts of you...
