Red Legged Partridges  Pauline.  Loads of them about here, being bred for shooting.  Aaaaaah

I have just looked up partridges on this website and it seems that the French partridge and the red legged partridge are the same bird.    ::)

Yes, I know they were the same, some folk call them RL's and others French.  They were brought in from France for shooting, weren't they.  The other Partridge is the Grey Partridge!!!

Gorgeous pics!  Seems a pity such an attractive bird is hunted for sport.

We also have the golden pheasant here - was introduced for hunting by English lords a century or so ago.  Flushed a few of them when I was doing fawn tagging in the Phoenix Park a few years ago.
