YES! yes....
« on: November 15, 2007, 15:26:14 »
Yes.... Got another allotment - the one that unfortunately was neglected for 2 years (only saw them twice - I don't know what she did with the Phacelia seeds I gave her on the first occasion). Anyway, much digging and bindweed control will be needed (plus weeding for at least 7 years due to weeds flowering and setting seed).

Been down and signed the agreement. It doesn't start until March 2008 but still, we've got it.

The allotment agreement arrived today.

1 - pay.
2 - use as an allotment garden and for no other purpose.
3 - "To keep the allotment garden free from weeds and well manured and otherwise maintain it in a good state of cultivation and fertility and good condition."
etc ...

Hmm. I don't recall hubby signing the agreement for our first plot, which currently is not exactly adhering to rule 3 above.

Tenancy of my plot begins 1st March 2008.

Why do you have to WAIT until March 2008...?  ???
To me that's several months wasted time you could be prepping it for spring.   ::)

I presume that although the agreement starts 1st march you can get on there now?

Well, we could sort of start on it, but wouldn't officially start until March! Probably won't plant anything until then. OH says he doesn't fancy digging it at the moment! The main access path along the one side of the allotment site as it goes past the plot is getting overgrown with the hedge - that'll probably be trimmed by us soon. The plot is bindweed-infested, so maybe just chopping that back. Probably don't want to do toooo much before its officially ours. We still have things to do on our current plot.

The plot is next door to our current plot, so access shouldn't be a problem. I feel like putting the bird feeding thingywhatsit there as a substitute flag!

Yah boo shucks multiveg, green with envy - no allotments in this area despite demands, and the legal requirement of councils to provide them.  Staffordshire Moorlands get us some allotments!!!

I spoke to the person at the council about this - she said she'd heard about the requirement but had no other information about it.
Perhaps you could write a letter to your local paper, or something?

OH went to the plot today. He started to weed and got carried away digging out some roots. Then he saw sense? and decided to sort the hedge which was overgrowing the main path, and impeding access to the tap - brambles mainly.

I popped down after a couple of hours to plant some garlic (didn't get round to more garlic or shallots).

I took loads of pictures of that plot (didn't take any of current plot - nasturtiums running riot). There is some carpet on that plot, but it is starting to get overgrown.  OH is thinking of hiring one of those flame things to clear the weeds. While he googled, he found a link to one that uses the flame wand to kill slugs.

Also measured the plot. OH wants a polytunnel the width of the plot! Thinking about a 10x35ft one!!
