Now is a good time to get them into the ground, so they can establish roots over the winter.

Adding some good compost to the soil when planting will be good for them.

Just remember to get the backfill right between the roots as they go in, with no empty spaces. Keep them well watered over the winter, until the roots get going, and dont go too near them with your hoe.

Once they are going well, they are like roses, only a nuclear strike will stop them! ;)
Why plant rows of 24 lettuces??
