Lots of six-legged livestock, but the only four-legged residents are pests.

We have the chairmans pigs on some of the unused land. They get it ready for dividing up into new plots. This year they bred from them but we aren't allowed to go near them due to the foot and mouth so no idea how many they have had.
My idea was to build Liverpool into a bastion of invincibility. Napoleon had that idea. He wanted to conquer the bloody world. I wanted Liverpool to be untouchable. My idea was to build Liverpool up and up until eventually everyone would have to submit and give in. Bill Shankly.

We haven't got any interesting four legged animals but one of our plot holders has two turkeys.  The eggs were hatched by one of their large hens Spring 2006 - this Spring both turkeys (they're both females) started laying and one went broody, so two fertilizer hens eggs were put under her and she hatched these and the two chicks immediately bonded with her, and she with them and she's been an excellent mum.  The chicks are about four months old now but the three of them still keep together (they're in a pen with other chickens) and mum is still very protective of her 'babies'.  The turkeys are named 'Christmas' and 'Easter' - but they're not destined for the oven!

Our council was considering letting us do the same thing, but in the meantime we were given permission for goats, and I don't think I could manage pigs as well.

The case of bluetongue that has emerged here is very worrying. Our goats were supposed to be going to the infected farm this month for mating. Had foot and mouth not flared up, banning animal movements, our girls would quite possibly now be dead.

I used to keep goats about 30 years ago. Wonderful animals, the children were brought up on goats milk. They always looked healthy. Cottage cheese coming out of our ears, but I did not need a strimmer to keep the weeds and grass down. Tried the meat once but can't say I liked it a lot.

Used to breed Tamworth pigs if only I was allowed to keep 3 weaners on my new unused for 3 years plot, they are better that any mechanical digger for clearing the soil.

And fertilising it at the same time  ;D

I'm working on my council to let me have pigs on the vacant plots now I've convinced them that goats are ok
