Some varieties don't but I'm not sure about Brunswick... I've had some Heritage cabbage " Delaway?" in all year, waiting for them to heart up, just to re read the label that says they don't and should be used like salad bowl letuce!

Hi debjay.  Just looked it up and Brunswick on Seeds-by-Size website and they list this cabbage as a Cattle Variety(?) and say it has a large solid head with dark green leaves.......

When did you plant them? I planted my savoys out in sept (I think) and was told it was too late....I would get good leaf but they wouldnt heart up. I shall know better next year ;)
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

can be a few reasons why a cabbage doesn't form a good heart - lack of nutrition, drought (doubt that  ;D), shade, cabbage root fly. If the leaves look good then lack of good soil food would be the cause, however most winter cabbages should be sown in april or may, planted out no later than july for plenty of time to get the best from them - so maybe a bit too late  :-\
