Now I am a huge supporter of BBC and especially the news service but I do think Newsround has a lot to answer for - enough for a whole thread in the right place.  Anyway, on this issue, the presenter has just said "This year, because of the weather, lots of them are a nasty green colour."  Statements like that aimed at youngsters do not help when it comes to getting people to accept aesthetically imperfect veg. >:(

what variety?

They are Big Max.
This lot plus about four others came from two plants.
I planted them out really early under cloches, on top of a huge compost heap, so they've had plenty of time and encouragement. There's six over 80 lbs each
They call it the "Good Life" but it's a b****y HARD life!

I'm sure turnips were traditional in England. Pumpkins are an American thing.

I haven't grown any turnips :-\....I wonder if swede would work?

My jumbo pink banana is still sitting there gently swelling like a huge yellow barrage balloon....I may end up sacrificing it for the halloween season, my 'Mars' pumpkins are still relatively small and green in comparison...  :-\
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

I only had one big one this year, it was putting on an inch a day
until it fell off the raised bed and the stalk broke. :'(
It's an Atlantic Giant which wasn't very giant, only making 24lbs.
It's now hidden in my greenhouse!
