Hi

Just joined and I assume this is the place to say 'hi'

We've just taken on a half plot and went to visit it last night - and it is soooooooooo overgrown it's unbelievable.  Lots of hard work to get it looking good but we're up for a challenge  ;D

Our plot is in Whitnash in Warwickshire ;D - anyone else on that site?

It's great to have you on the site,  we always apreciate new members.

Unfortunately most plots are overgrown when people first take them on because the previous encumbant thought until their last that they would be able to do something with it!!  ??? ???

Nows the time to clear the plot of weeds and begin on improving the soil for spring - you'll be surprised how quick the seasons come around when you're thinking ahead of what to plant!

I'm not in Warwickshire but further up in the north, but there's folks from all around on here so someone will be able to offer you local advice.

                Nice to see another new face (so to speak)
I'm in Northern Ireland, but that doesn't stop me putting my ha'penny's worth in. ;D
     Distance is no object on this site, everybody's welcome.
Snoozie is right, try to get the weeds under control and the soil improved for spring, and what you cant manage , cover over. this will keep the weeds down until you get time to tackle it.
         You'll find everyone really helpful here if you need advice, or even just fancy a chat ;)

Hey matizzy, welcome to our madhouse for the criminally insane ;D (or those of us trying to battle weeds on a daily basis anyway  ::) )

As the others have said you're best off trying to prepare ground for lots of planting & sowing next spring, but if you manage to get a patch prepared soon you can get garlic & onions in now for overwintering.  Some people also put peas and broad beans in too, so do a search on this site and you'll get lots of advice.

Take plenty of piccies as you go along, you'll be amazed at how quickly your plot changes - and make sure you show us them, we are a nosey bunch  ;)

Really looking forward to getting started - we've got loads of plans (and a 9 year old who thinks he's going to get paid to work on the plot  :o ) but will take it slowly, prepare the ground and see where it takes us.  What is the saying " a penny on the plant, a pound on the soil"

Great you have a 9 year old to help you...my 10 year old son has really enjoyed working at the plot the past year, and he has saved my bacon at Easter when he and his mate were paid pennies to plant out my potatoes when I had the 'flu!
