Need a London allotment - can u help?
« on: June 17, 2004, 21:04:30 »
Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum, but it looks great!  I'm seeking advice/knowledge on finding an allotment in London.  I had an allotment between 1991-1999 at Vauxhall City Farm in Lambeth and have been out of London for three years.  At the moment I live in Camden and cycle 10 miles to an allotment in Barnet.  However, I am now moving back south for a new job and am DESPERATE for a new allotment!!!

Does anyone know of any allotments (esp. with vacancies!) around Lambeth, Southwark, Wandsworth?  I'm back on the waiting list at Vauxhall City Farm, but at the current turnover rate I'll be waiting 20 years!

Any information/advice about locations, vacancies, community gardens, allotment sharing would be most gratefully received!  Many thanks,

Will

Hi William - and welcome to the crew.  But -- I'm sorry, I'm in Leeds.  Best I can offer are a couple of links

http://www.btinternet.com/~richard.wiltshire/allot1.htm
http://www.kitchengardens.dial.pipex.com/homepage.htm

Worth a go?  They seem well connected?

And hang in there - just the right plot is waiting for you!!! :)

All best - Gavin

Hi William, welcome!

In addition to gavin's links, I would suggest a computer search for each council home page.  If it's like our council website, a search lists all the allotment sites in the area and contact details.  Best of luck!  ;D

Thanks for the support, guys - the Lambeth website is a non-starter for allotments I'm afraid....  But I may pay them a visit sometime soon!

Cheers

Try Wandsworth council..

They have a few sites around.

This year I contacted Roehampton Garden Society - number on the council's website and got an allotment within 1 week.

The rent is due in April, so much plots gets available then.

The garden society have 2 large sites close together and many plots.

Good luck

Good luck William - let us know how you get on.

If you're really desperate, the metropolitan line comes out to Chesham and we have loads of empty plots (unfortunately)  :'(

Hello william

If you are looking for links to all the council websites I have them on my website.

http://www.selfsufficientish.com/councils.htm for councils from K-Y
and http://www.selfsufficientish.com/councilsaj.htm and obviously for A-J.

That should make life a bit easier than having to manually search for all the councils individually. Hope it helps you out mate, good luck.
Andy
