What a belter B.B  :o I agree with Emma.  You can however split in autumn or the spring, but I prefer autumn too.  The reason for that is that if you damage any leaves splitting in spring, then they stay damaged for the season, but, if you do it in autumn, then no nice juicy leaves to damage. ;)
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

A beauty BB !   Do you give it a drink of coffee every morning?? ;)

Just to be awkward I split mine in the spring!! .....with a highly dangerous looking butcher's knife!!  ::)
But Mimi's and EJ's preference for Autumn makes more sense!  ;D

Thanks ladies! It's the first time i've ever had one. It's certainly seems to like the sunshine,i always thought they had to be grown in the shade. I think that i'll try this Autumn then.May need a little help as it's quite big.

Oooo. I didn't know you could split them! My flatmate grew a couple last year, but they got decimated by slugs. This year, though, one of them at least, has come back with a vengeance, and is soaring. She put a cut-out ring of plastic coke bottle around it, which seems to have done the trick.
