« on: July 22, 2007, 20:55:02 »
I seem to have whitefly in the polytunnel, on tomatoes. What is the best to do about it? Dont usually have any problems.
Thanks

If you dont want to spray(is the anything LEFT on the shelf you can spray?), get some yellow sticky whitefly cards, and hang them around the plants.

They cannot resist the yellow colour, and fly to it. Good idea to shake the plants now and then, to get them airborne.

Works in a greenhouse, in a big polytunnel you would need quite a few if you have lots of plants
Why plant rows of 24 lettuces??

I bought a pack of sticky yellow strips to hang in the greenhouse (not cheap, about £4-odd for 6 strips.  If you tap the plants the whitefly become airbourne.  Sadly they catch anything that is unlucky enough to fly towards them ie the good, the bad and the ugly but I believe that whitefly are supposed to be attracted to the colour.  Not convinced myself but they have caught a lot of whitefly I have to say.  :-\ :-\
