lifted my early maincrop???
« on: July 16, 2007, 18:22:15 »
i had what i thought was blight on my early maincrop potato folige so i cut it off like it said to do, and i left the stalks and tubers in the soil but because of the heavy rain the stalks went all mushy. so i lifted them. (i was going to leave them for 2 weeks)
i have got really big tubers and they look ok  will they be ok even though i lifted them 3 weeks early??? im still not sure if it was blight or not?

If not sure and you have the space wash them to remove as much soil as possible, spread them out to dry... dust sheet in spare bedroom.. two or three days and give them a turning over... better with reds as the whites might green, close the curtains!!!
You will be able to tell the good ones from the funny ones...
Use the suspect ones first and store the others short term!

My tomatoes have definitely got blight, but all our potatoes have been displaying blight-like signs which haven't actually been blight.

The tubers are big because we've had so much rain. They're early because the whole season's early. (Remember April?)

Take Saddad's advice & use (or give away) the iffey ones first.
