Uses for a sycamore tree
« on: July 07, 2007, 22:55:50 »
I have a sycamore tree growing on my allotment. It is part of a spinney of fruit trees and a grassy area that I don't cultivate.

The tree has several limbs and I have reduced this to two large ones about 30ft high. I am starting to use pollards as bean sticks, but wonder what else can the tree be used for.

How about  handles for tools or large poles at the end of fruit rows?

I also have several large plum and apple trees that provide lots of timber which I just burn each year - any suggestions for better uses of this material?

Hang a noose in it, as a warning to vandals

I've used tree branches for stakes all around my plot so that i can build a frame for all the sweet peas/beans and peas.

I use the smaller branches for sturdy dahlia canes and the thinner ones for pea sticks and general short supports for perrenials and floppy annuals such as cornflowers ,tomatoes, broccoli

but also you could grow stuff up it, beans, clematis honeysuckle peas if its wet or morning glories or convululous if its dry.

or rope pots or hanging baskets to it and then the skys the limit!

Shame you can't eat the bugger though as its not a native tree either
good luck Sunloving
