Help save our Allotment site in Guildford

HELP SAVE OUR ALLOTMENT SITE - SIGN OUR ONLINE PETITION

We have been campaigning for many months to get a planned Housing Development stopped on our Allotment Site in Guildford.

Part of that campaign is to petition the Prime Minister - please do help support us by signing our on-line petition. The petition says:

"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to insist that Guildford Borough Council preserves the Aldershot Road Allotment Site (Westborough, Guildford ) as Allotments and Open Space.

We call for (1) the complete removal of the threat of Housing Development on this nature-rich Greenfield site and valuable community asset and (2) that the Council's Housing Programme be limited to development on the abundant Brownfield sites in the Borough"

The Web address is: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/allotmentsgfd

Enter the address in your Browser Message Bar and & hit “Go” or “enter”.  You will be straight into the Petition. You then enter your name, home & e-mail addresses and the site sends you an e-mail back to verify your e-mail address. Click on the link in this e-mail and you'll have signed the petition. Only your name is shown on the petition – so no danger of ID theft or other on-line nasties.

It's a lot easier than it sounds and takes a few seconds.

Please ask everyone you can think of to sign - they don't have to be Guildford locals or allotment buffs - friends, family, work colleagues etc are all welcome.

Any problems, call me on 01483 832618 evenings/weekends.

We need several hundred signatures so please do support us on this.

Thanks for your support

David,  I think that a lot of allotments have been classed as brownfield sites, seeing as they have been worked on but best of luck.  The MP for Durham North, Kevan Jones, tried to do this and John Prescott put a stop to it so all 3 sites where I live were saved.   Not sure what will happen now that he's been shunted to Strasbourg tho'   :-[

Done my bit too - I hope we don't need to ask for this type of help any time soon  :-\

Good Luck!

Sorry, just spotted. Signed up and thinking - aren't there a lot of these petitions? You'd think the government would have got the message by now.
What did they think would happen when they built loads of flats with no gardens or outdoor space? That's why I got my plot - I would have been quite happy to grow veg in the garden.  ::) >:(

Good luck.  I will spread this (along with my new two tons of horse nuts) around my allotment site.

signed another similar petition a little while ago and kept the official Downing Street response, in case it ever came in handy. here it is:

EDIT: deleted as asbean linked to it here:
http://www.number-10.gov.uk/output/Page12015.asp
plus as previously mentiond in the thread above it appears to be a bog standard regurgitation of current legislation. oh well ::)

Bog standard repetition is all you ever seem to get out of these petitions. But that's governments for you, it's all you'll get from writing to a minister. If you want a helpful response, the only way to go is your local MP.
