chilli plants and pot size
« on: July 06, 2007, 11:31:35 »
Hi all hope you can advise me i have 3 chilli plants growing in 10inch terracotta pots on my windowsill, theyre quite tall and the roots are coming through the bottom of the pots. Do i have to pot them on or will they be ok in those pots? i want to keep them indoors because of the weather, but the only bigger pots i can think of are those black florist buckets but they wont fit on my window sill!

Thanks
Hannah

Sounds like you have shrub like varieties as opposed to the pot varieties.

Personally I would pot them up into the buckets and stick them outdoors in a sheltered position. If the weather does get decidedly 'rough' then fetch them indoors until the weather improves, then put them back out again

The alternative is just leave them as they are and cut the root system off as it appears.

Providing you treat them with food and water as you have been doing all that is likely to happen is the fruit will ripen sooner and may not be as large.

so if i leave them I just cut the roots off as they come through the bottom?

Sorry i am a beginner as you can probably tell  ;D
